Edinburgh Portrait Photographer – Fine-Art Portrait Sessions in Scotland

Portrait sessions are some of the most empowering, intimate and transformative experiences we can give ourselves. Portraiture has always felt like a kind of art therapy to me — whether you’re seeking soulful, quiet imagery or something bold and dramatic, I create fine-art portraits with intention, emotion and artistry.

Although the Highlands are my home, I often travel to the city as an Edinburgh portrait photographer, offering both studio and outdoor sessions. Many clients begin their experience in Edinburgh and then journey north with me to create truly breathtaking portraits in the wild Highland landscapes.

Portrait Sessions in Edinburgh

If you’re looking for an Edinburgh portrait photographer with a soft, artistic and emotional style. I’m available for:

-Natural-light portraits around the city
-Fine-art studio sessions (using rented Edinburgh studios)
-Outdoor sessions at locations like Calton Hill, Arthur’s Seat or Dean Village
-Portraits for travellers or clients visiting Scotland

Edinburgh offers incredible textures, wind, stone and atmosphere. A beautiful contrast to fine-art portraiture. Many clients love the intimacy of a studio session in the city, or the drama of Edinburgh’s iconic viewpoints.
Even though the city is not my home base, I love working in Edinburgh because it brings a completely different emotional tone to the work.

Edinburgh outdoor portrait sessions are available anytime. Studio portraits in Edinburgh are offered once a month — get in touch for the next available date.

Portrait Sessions in the Scottish Highlands

The Scottish Highlands are where I feel most inspired, and at home (literally).
The drama of the landscape: the scale, the colours, the shifting weather. This all becomes part of the artwork.

Highland portrait sessions can include:

Sunset or sunrise experiences.

Adventure locations.

Minimal, natural portraits in wild spaces.

Multi-location journeys for a full fine-art experience.

If you want something cinematic, atmospheric and deeply connected to nature then the Highlands create portraits that feel like paintings.

Studio portraits are also available in a beautiful natural-light studio near Inverness. For clients who prefer an indoor fine-art setting.

Creative Options (Including Flying Dress Photoshoot)

For clients who want something especially bold and expressive, I also offer creative styled sessions. Including the option for a Flying Dress Photoshoot.

The flying dress adds movement, colour and drama, and while this style of session deserves its own full guide (coming soon). It fits beautifully within portraiture as a whole. A flowing gown lifted by the wind against Edinburgh’s skyline or the Highlands’ wild landscapes creates unforgettable images.

You’re always welcome to ask about including a flying dress within your portrait experience.

My Approach — Fine-Art, Storytelling & Safe Creative Space

With me, I want you to feel the safety to truly be yourself. Portraiture is not just about taking photographs — it’s about creating a space where you can breathe, soften, and unfold a little. I approach every session as a fine artist first, shaping imagery that reflects your inner world as much as the moment we’re in together.

Many of the portraits I create carry a sense of story — a journey, a transition, or even a touch of fantasy. If you feel drawn to symbolism, conceptual ideas or something more imaginative, we can build that together. I work with a wonderful team of creative set designers who can help bring your vision to life, whether subtle and poetic or bold and dreamlike.

In every session, my aim is for you to feel supported, empowered and seen — and to leave with artwork that feels deeply connected to who you are and where you’re going.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between a session in Edinburgh or the Highlands?

Edinburgh studio portraits are available once a month, and outdoor Edinburgh sessions require a minimum of the 1-hour package. Highland sessions, however, can be booked year-round at any time. Edinburgh offers elegant textures and historic settings, while the Highlands provide wild, cinematic landscapes. If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help you choose the location that best reflects your vision.

Do I need to know how to pose?

Not at all. I guide you gently throughout the entire session — from movement to posture to the smallest details — so you feel grounded, confident and beautifully yourself.

What should I wear?

Once you book, I’ll send styling suggestions tailored to your location and session style. Flowing fabrics work wonderfully outdoors, while studio portraits can suit more minimal or editorial looks. You’re welcome to bring outfit options, especially for longer sessions.

Can I book a studio portrait session in the Highlands?

Yes. I offer studio portraits in a beautiful natural-light studio near Inverness, perfect for fine-art portraiture and an alternative to Edinburgh studio sessions which are held once a month.

Do you offer Flying Dress Photoshoots?

Yes — you can add a flying dress to any portrait experience, in either Edinburgh or the Scottish Highlands. A full guide will be available soon, but I’m always happy to talk through styling and creative ideas.

How far in advance should I book?

Outdoor sessions in Edinburgh and the Highlands are available year-round. Studio dates in Edinburgh are available once a month and tend to book quickly, so I recommend securing your date early, especially during peak seasons.

Are digital images included?

Yes. Each package includes a set number of high-resolution digital downloads with the option to upgrade to the full gallery. All images are edited with the same fine-art care and attention.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Scottish weather can be part of the magic, but if conditions make the session impossible, we can reschedule or adapt. Soft rain, wind and mist often create breathtaking fine-art portraits and forests provide shelter.
