A Santorini Love Story – Elopement in Santorini
Imagine waking up with your fiancé, having breakfast and then heading down for a swim in the heat of the golden Santorini sunshine. Perfect right? Well that’s how this love story started and I think more elopements and weddings should begin this way.
Oia is a beautiful town on the rugged clifftops of Santorini, overlooking the Aegean Sea. The place is recognised by its infamous whitewashed houses and although brimming with tourists, this idyllic setting is a popular wedding and elopement destination. I had wanted to photograph an Elopement in Santorini for such a long time. The start of November was such a perfect time of year, the end of the bustling tourist season and just the perfect temperature.
After the morning swim, and a gorgeous Halloumi Salad for lunch, I arrived at Joni and Brian’s apartment to photograph the final bridal preparations. The whole vibe was SO relaxed! No one to cater for or worry about. Just Joni, Brian and a little black book filled with vows. We headed out to the whitewashed houses overlooking the sea to read their vows. The sun was beautiful and golden, that moment just before sunset. A little local dog decided to join us on the roof!
Just as the sun set, we made our way to the highest point on the cliff edge to watch it go down. I can’t quite put into words how unforgettable and perfect this moment was. Hopefully you can see through their story told in photographs and a Super 8 film. It was pure magic!
